First Steps

Today was our meeting with First Steps to go over the results of his evaluation. I am debating about going over the specifics of the report as far as his developmental level is concerned as it might sound too alarming. It really is not! So I will cover the basics and the jest of the eval. They did not diagnose him with apraxia. I thought based upon the verbal conversation that I had with the intake coordinator that he had in fact been given the diagnosis, but they said they did not believe he was and if he was they would not diagnosis a child until the age of 3. Right now they are just not sure of the cause of his delay, but the therapy through out the next six months should give them an idea.

He has a greater than 50% delay in communication and 50% in adaptive behavior. The bottom line, again without going into the specifics, he is going to greatly benefit from speech-language therapy!
In the next month, Luke will begin receiving two hours of speech therapy a week! One hour in home with a one on one speech therapy session, and another hour in a group setting with 4 other peers. The group session is out-side of the home and closely resembles a pre-school like environment. Parents are welcome to stay, but are not required. So we will start with mommy there (or daddy) and gradually work us out of the picture.
Without a doubt they feel that his speech issues are easily overcome able and they feel he will greatly benefit from the program.

We are so excited for our little guy to be getting the help he needs and we are so grateful that we live in an environment where the tools he needs are readily available for him! We love him so much, talking or not, but are so excited for him as well.

Does the picture above really need any explaining?
