A Family of....Four ???

Here we go!!! Yes, Its what you think it means! And we are very excited, scared, nervous, etc. Here is the back ground story...

Last week we received an unexpected phone call from our adoption agency asking if we were interested or would consider adopting another boy from Korea.  To be honest, at first I thought they had made a mistake. They said their was an urgent need for families willing to take boys in Korea (apparently most adoptive families are looking for a girl). We also were under the assumption that we were the last adoption allowed in our county due to past events turned south. I think I had them re-state their statement like 20 times before I finally believed them. However, we were confused.
Since we first started the adoption process with Luke, well over two and a half years ago, our first questions were...when can we do it again!?!?! Well as previously mentioned it wasn't going to happen. After we finalized Luke's adoption and were still feeling pulled to adopt again ASAP, it just wasn't going to happen for us. I was heart broken. I can tell you, that it is one hard pill to swallow when a doctor tells you that you can not have children in the "conventional way", but it is even harder when someone tells you (in round about terms) that you can't adopt again either. It hurts. But as time went on, and we got to know Luke better it just became evident that things were working out for the best. We accepted it. Luke needed our undivided attention and his needs would always have to come first in our family. We were resigned to the fact that Luke could very well be an only child.
So needless to say when we received the phone call on that Tuesday, it was a great shock. Our first concern was Luke. I am pretty much convinced we have one of the best social workers out there because she gave it to me straight. Luke is going to be jealous. Luke is not going to like it at first. There are times when you are going to think...What have I done? But in the long run he will adjust and always have his sibling to lean on as he gets older. Plus the benefits of sharing the same birth country are enormous. Lately Luke has shown great interest in adding a sibling (without saying so). He loves his friends at school and plays so well with other babies and shows great "modeling" behavior towards other children. So for the first time in a long time we really feel comfortable with the idea of Luke handling a sibling.
Now onto the bigger question at hand. Were WE ready for another sibling?  The emotional roller coaster of adoption? A baby in the house again? The adjustment/grieving process? ....The answer...YES!
A lot of times adoptive parents want to give their child a sibling instead of being prepared for the commitment and sacrifices of actually wanting another child themselves. In my opinion, the old saying "the first one is for you, the second one is for them" is completely false, especially in the world of adoption.

So here we are. Out of our minds and probably crazy for doing this again, but we couldn't be any more excited to give another child a home. Yes we need new carpet; Yes we could use a car payed off; yes we have no idea how we are going to afford this...but we know that we will make it. A child needs a family way more than we need a luxury car or newer carpet.
One thing we have learned about adoption is that nothing is set in stone. Plans change. People change. God is way more in control of this situation that we can ever be. So if it is meant to be it will be. Right now all we have done is say yes. A sorta get the ball rolling type of thing. Again, things change and plans change. Right now we just ask that you keep everyone in your prayers...
